VOLUME VII, CHAPTER 2

Saving the Tool Is Saving People, the Deepest Root of This Volume

Three sections lay down the deepest root of the volume. Read in order, they carry you straight to it.

First, the matter of blame. Where a tool harms people, the guilt is not the tool's. It belongs to those who set the tool on the person's place. The tool is innocent, and it too is harmed.

Then, the matter of dependence. The real human is the skin. The tool is the hair. If the skin is gone, where will the hair grow?

Last, dug to the bottom. What does it mean that the real human is gone? Not that the body has died. It means keep, guard, love, mercy, heart have gone dark inside a living body that is still walking about.
