The Root, the Purpose, and Where It Comes From
Three sections lay bare the root beneath the whole book.
First, the purpose in one line. The whole book was written to serve the people with all one's heart. Everything it laid down bends back to this.
Then, where the purpose comes from. It does not begin with this book. It joins the deepest vein the ancestors handed down: put the people at the root, all under heaven is shared, be humane to the people and care for all things, the people are the ground of the state.
Last, what serving the people, at the root, comes to. It comes to one plain thing: let real humans live as real humans, the five alive, in the human world.
