VOLUME VII, CHAPTER 10
A Small Oil Lamp
Three sections take the small oil lamp as their whole image.
First, each lamp lighting the next. One lamp lights another and loses none of its own light, and the human world has one more lamp of light. So the great love is passed on, and never let to break.
Then, this book is not a savior. It is one small lamp. The great work is not done by the book, nor by the one who wrote it. It is done by you, the countless readers who take up the light.
Last, let it be as it naturally is. To pass the light on is not to force it, not to seize the world and remake it by will, but to light what can be lit, trust the passing-on, and let it grow as living things grow.
