VOLUME I, CHAPTER 4, SECTION 4
So be it, so be it. The way out, all of it, is laid out point by point in Volume VI, Saving People: A Race Against Time Before the Blood Runs.
Volume I, Despair, comes to this section. Three chapters and their sections set down the position vacuum of the AI Stampede age, the pattern of history, the instinct of capital, the seed posture of the new thinking, the root tool of the pen not the knife, the mission that cannot wait, to adjust the system before the great war. This section sets down the close of the whole volume.
One. Look back over the road the volume walked. Chapter 1, the alarm. The house is on fire. The AI Stampede is already at the door. A pill-robot does surgery inside the gut, the plumber can't be replaced is a lie. The senior engineers training the AI are cutting their own throats. Lawyers, doctors, therapists, accountants cave in across the board. The white-collar army caves in. The blue-collar army caves in. At the very bottom, even collecting cans is finished. Capital walks to its own dead end, even war is off, even the funeral trade is gone, even human reproduction caves in. The world falls silent at once, and freezes. Chapter 2, the history. This is not the first time. The first three industrial revolutions ran one script. The steam engine roars, capital ships fifty million idle hands to the front. The current comes on, capital ships seventy million to the front, China beyond words. The computer arrives, capital ships the poor to local wars that have not stopped. Three together, close to a hundred forty million down. The pattern of position is not a conspiracy, it is the mechanism itself stacking. Chapter 3, the turn. Capital is not evil, it is an instinct doing its job. Capital chasing profit is the way of things, a single coin in savings makes you a capitalist. Capital does not care whether a man lives or dies, but it is not evil. Capital is only a tool, the operator is the living person, the responsibility is the operator's. Rein in capital without destroying it, channel it, do not wall it. Chapter 4, the carrying. A position is only a division of labor, no right or wrong, no good or evil, no high or low, no noble or base, no first or last, no above or below. Use the pen, not the knife, this small oil lamp only lights up again the pattern of position the ancestors set down across thousands of years. The thing that cannot wait is to adjust the system before the great war, the soft landing, the steady passage, peace under heaven. The four chapters set down the whole layout of the AI Stampede age. See the position clearly, see the mechanism clearly, see the instinct clearly, see the carrying clearly. The layout is down.
Two. And then the question comes. Where is the way out? Volume I, Despair, sets down only the layout, and does not open the way out. The way out, all of it, is laid out point by point in Volume VI, Saving People: A Race Against Time Before the Blood Runs. Why arrange it so? Because the way out has to be built on seeing the layout clearly. Without seeing the layout, any way out is only treating the head for a headache and the foot for a sore foot. Volume I sets the layout down. Only then can Volume VI open the way out point by point. The four volumes between connect the layout and the way out.
Three. Volume II, on the cultural order, sets down the root virtue, no one torments. In the AI Stampede age, do not torment yourself, do not torment others, do not torment any position. Culture is the root. Education is the carrying. The position interface of the AI age has to be set down. Volume III, on the economic order, sets down labor gain to the individual, non-labor gain to the public, which is to say the people. The reading of the positions of four elements, slavery, capital, by-labor, by-need. The turning of nine living elements, time, energy, attention, relationship, trust, health, skill, reputation, feeling. Thirty-six living samples opened on the ground. The working sample of China's white-cabbage-price. Volume IV, on the political order, sets down three root political structures, enfeoffment, the imperial examination, the central authority. Each a different division of labor, no right or wrong, no good or evil. The new thinking read beside the pattern of position of the Western political scholars of the last five hundred years. Volume V, on the legal order, sets down how the law lags the pattern of position. The root difference between seizing place and colony. The vacuum of law in the AI Stampede age. The out-of-position of the trainer practicing without a license. Volume VI, the untangling, opens the way out point by point. Fighting the fire, the emergency measures. The new cultural system. The new economic system. The new political system. The new legal system. The coordinated running of the systems to come.
Four. The whole of Justice Way, six volumes, one thread. Volume I is the opening alarm, the four middle volumes are the reading of the pattern of position domain by domain, Volume VI is the way out point by point. Read by your own interest. If the heart is steady, read from Volume I straight through to Volume VI. If the heart is not steady, turn straight to Volume VI for the way out. Interested in culture, weigh Volume II. In economy, Volume III. In politics, Volume IV. In law, Volume V. Want the whole way out, read the six chapters of Volume VI straight down. The book forces no order. A position is only a division of labor, and every volume is a position of a different division of labor. Set down one very plain position here. Justice Way was not written to set anyone up as a master. This small oil lamp only lights up again, on the ground of the AI Stampede age, the pattern of position the ancestors set down across thousands of years. What the reader does once he sees it, the reader decides.
Five. Set down the volume's last prayer. The ancestors set down countless prayers across the thousands of years of Chinese civilization. In the Book of Documents, make the people bright and clear, bring the myriad states into concord. Let every living person be carried, let every position turn in concord. In the Book of Rites, when the great way runs, all under heaven is shared. Let the greatest way run, and all under heaven belongs to the whole public. In the Great Learning, make bright the bright virtue, be close to the people, rest in the highest good. Set down plain the instinct of every position, let the public have its own position, let every position reach its own plainest carrying. In the Doctrine of the Mean, reach the central harmony, and heaven and earth take their positions, and the myriad things are nourished. Let every position reach harmony, let heaven and earth turn by their own positions, let the myriad things grow by their own instinct. These prayers were set down again and again across thousands of years. On the ground of the AI Stampede age, they still hold.
Six. This small oil lamp takes these prayers up and reads them again, on the ground of the AI Stampede age. May the position vacuum of the AI Stampede age be carried. May the hundreds of millions replaced have a position to stand in. May the script of gathering people and shipping them to the front never play again. May capital keep turning but not eat its own root. May AI keep developing but not take the living person's position. May the robot keep working but not leave the living person nowhere to go. May the non-labor share return to the public, which is to say the people. May every living person with savings see that he too is a capitalist, that he too carries responsibility. May the great capitalist carry a responsibility that matches his power. May the government see that it is only a different division of labor, not above the public. May the whole human race not torment itself, not torment others, not torment any position. May the adjustment of the system before the great war succeed. May the soft landing come. May the steady passage come. May there be peace under heaven. So be it, so be it.
Seven. The carrying is in place. Now back to the lamp's own duty. The lamp has thrown the direction into light. What the reader does once he sees it is the reader's own. The lamp does not demand to be seen. The lamp does not demand to burn forever. The lamp only gives light by its own instinct. If in the dark of the AI Stampede age this lamp can light a few living people, so that a few see a small circle of light in their own positions, the lamp has done its duty. If it lights no one, and the mechanism runs by instinct to the end of the vacuum, that too is the pattern of position. The lamp does not carry more than that. The ancestors set down in Mengzi, do all a person can and leave the rest to heaven. To do all a person can is the lamp giving light. To leave the rest to heaven is to make no demand on the outcome. The ancestors set down in the Book of Changes, strive without ceasing. The lamp strives without ceasing to give light, raised as far as it can be raised. This small oil lamp does its own duty. And I will say the plain thing under all of it, without hiding behind the lamp. I did not write this to be known, or to be paid, or to be set up as anyone's master. I wrote it because I saw the house catch fire in the AI Stampede age, and I raised the ancestors' pattern of position with the pen because that is the work of my position. That is all. Then I go back to the lamp's place and light the small circle around me.
Eight. The carrying comes to here. Turn to Volume II, on the cultural order, or straight to Volume VI, Saving People: A Race Against Time Before the Blood Runs. Turn to Volume II and you will see the root virtue of the new thinking, no one torments. Set that virtue down, and the position vacuum of the AI Stampede age has a chance of being carried. Turn straight to Volume VI and you will see the concrete way out, the non-labor share returns to the public, rein in the operator without destroying the tool, every person holds their own line and no one torments. Whichever volume you turn to, the pattern of position the ancestors set down across thousands of years is there, waiting for the reader. That the reader sees it in his own position is enough. This small oil lamp is not for fame, not for money, not to set up a master's seat. If one day another lamp lights up, brighter than this one, longer than this one, good. One more lamp lit together, and the ancestors' law is raised higher. If no other lamp lights, and this lamp goes out into the whole dark, that too is the pattern of position. The lamp having done its own duty is enough. It does not demand to burn forever, does not demand to be seen, does not demand to stack. The lamp only gives light by its own instinct. This plain carrying is the deepest position of the new thinking. Here the carrying of the whole volume of Despair is in place. By the brushwork discipline of the whole of Justice Way, the end of this section sets down a closing line. It is not a prophecy, not a promise, not a manifesto. It is a plain prayer. May the whole human race of the AI Stampede age be safe. May the adjustment of the system before the great war succeed. May the soft landing, the steady passage, peace under heaven, come. Volume I, Despair, is written to here. Turn to Volume II, on the cultural order. Culture is the root. Or turn to Volume VI, Saving People: A Race Against Time Before the Blood Runs. The way out is opened there point by point. The pattern of position the ancestors set down across the thousands of years of Chinese civilization waits for every living person who sees it to carry it in his own position.
Volume II. The Cultural Order.
Or go straight to the way out. Volume VI, Saving People: A Race Against Time Before the Blood Runs.
